Listen up! Do not show up to Christmas/gift exchange and give a new Mama a baby gift! …unless she specifically asked for it. Otherwise follow my lead and get a little something for her. Most Mamas go crazy shopping for a new baby while pregnant. On top of that the baby shower provides tons for baby too. Don’t worry, I gotcha back. Below are 10+ items any new Mama would be happy to receive.
Baby Carrier and/or Baby Wrap – New Mama will need to get off the couch at some point. She’ll get hungry, need to toss a load of laundry in the washer, grab the mail or even go for a walk. Here’s the thing, new babies don’t like to be put down so new Mama holds her baby all day while her tummy rumbles and throat is dry. With a carrier or wrap she can still move about being functional and baby can still feel her heartbeat. It’s truly a win-win!
Pajamas – New Mama will be home a lot and she deserves to be comfy. She did just push a human out her lady parts or have one pulled from her abdomen. Gift her some new comfy pajamas, a robe and some slippers.
Sleep Mask – Trust me on this one. So new Mama is sleep deprived. Hubby or a loved one tells her to sleep while the baby sleeps. She’ll soon learn this is total BS. When she finally takes loved one up on the offer to tend to baby while she gets some rest it’ll probably be 3 PM and sunny. A sleep mask will block the sun and she may actually drift off to sleep. If the mask comes with ear plugs that’s a bonus! Mamas usually cannot sleep if their baby is crying, ear plugs will help – but Mama should only use the earplugs when another adult is home to tend to baby.
Memory Card – New Mama will be taking TONS of pics of the new baby, trust me! If she’s anything like me she’ll soon run out of space on her phone/camera/laptop because of so many baby pics. Help her out! Grab a memory card for safe keeping of the baby pics.
Journal – Mamas don’t want to ever forget the bonding time with baby. Mamas also have a ton of emotions after giving birth. Gift her a place to release these thoughts that’s also a keepsake she can have forever.
Picture Frame – Back to the pics, they are coming! Quickly and in large amounts. Gift Mama a new photo frame or two so she can proudly display pics of baby in their home.
Breastmilk Alcohol Test Strips – At some point she’s gonna want a glass of wine, or a stiff drink depending on the day and amount of dirty diapers changed. If she’s breastfeeding she’ll be hesitant to enjoy an adult beverage. Ease her pain with breast milk testing strips so she can enjoy that adult beverage without worry.
Shatterproof Wine Glasses – A classy lady does not drink wine from a water bottle. She must have the proper drinkware. These glasses are stemless and shatterproof, perfect for when baby becomes mobile.
Oil Diffuser – New Mama will want the house to smell pleasant with the influx of visitors. Traditional scented candles release toxins and no Mama wants that around her baby. Gift her an oil diffuser so her home can be fragrant the natural way. Essential Oils – Because you just decided to get new Mama an oil diffuser, they go together like peanut butter and jelly.
Herbal Tea Sampler – New Mama may need a coffee alternative for a while, especially if breastfeeding. Herbal teas have little to no caffeine and come in a wide variety of flavors.
New Coffee/Tea Mug – Because you just gifted new Mama and entire box of tea, you might as well grab her a new mug to drink from too.
Mommy & Me Matching Shirts – Who can resist matching with your kiddo? I sure can’t! I couldn’t decide on just one so I’m featuring 6 shops!
- Tees In The Trap
- Wear Bon Bon Vie
- Wifey N Training
- Coco Pie Clothing
- Kaans Designs
- Two Brooklyn Babes
Amazon Prime – Probably the most important gift on the list! New Mama will not always feel like (or have the energy to) run to the store. With an Amazon Prime membership some products can be on her doorstep in as little as an hour (location dependent)! Quick story – last winter was COLD! We needed diapers and wipes, snacks for me and some soap. I love Target but it was too damn cold to take my baby out. I used the Amazon Prime Now app on my phone (Android, iPhone & Windows) and the stuff was on my porch in less than 2 hours! Another way I use it, if I’m too tired to run to the store I’ll order on the app while still at work and set my delivery time for soon before I’m home. When I get home the bags are on my porch and we can get on with dinner and bath time. All this on top of tons of other perks.
